The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families. Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role:

The Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services for residents to and from various events and activities coordinated by the Manors. This role supports older adults’ independence and enables them to participate in community activities.

This position requires someone who is motivated and reliable and work under minimal supervision. They must be a team player and able to build positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, residents, families, and community stakeholders.

This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport residents to and from scheduled activities and events

  • Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including those using wheelchairs or mobility aids

  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and basic preventative maintenance

  • Report mechanical issues promptly

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the vehicle

  • Keep accurate records of mileage, schedules, and resident transportation requests

  • Ensure First Aid kit is stocked and available

  • Foster a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all passengers

  • Communicate effectively with staff, residents, families, and community partners

  • Apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills in day-to-day situations

  • Support additional duties as assigned

Who We're Looking For:

Core Competencies

  • Effective communication with strong interpersonal skills

  • Solution-oriented mindset with the ability to think critically and resolve conflicts effectively

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; consistently punctual and reliable

  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with individuals and teams

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Class 4 driver’s license

  • Clean driver’s abstract

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

  • Previous experience working with older adults preferred

  • Familiarity with routes and locations in Calgary

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to meet the physical, mental, social, and emotional demands of working in a healthcare environment

  • Capable of repetitive and prolonged physical activities

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and push/support up to 185 lbs

Additional Information:

In accordance with Alberta's Protection for Persons in Care Act, a criminal record check is required for successful candidates.

As a condition of employment with  “BSF”, all new Health Care Worker hires must provide written proof of immunizations for communicable diseases
