About Us:
The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families. Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Marketing, this role plays a key part in building BSF’s brand awareness and strengthening connections with both internal stakeholders and the broader community.
You will collaborate closely with our Philanthropy team to promote fundraising initiatives, steward donor and volunteer relationships, and share the impact of our charitable mission. You’ll also partner with our People, Culture & Belonging team to drive internal engagement and support communication efforts around learning, wellness, HR initiatives, and more.
This role is ideal for a strategic and creative communicator who enjoys variety, thrives in a collaborative environment, and can confidently manage multiple projects across diverse audiences and platforms.

Develop and execute internal and external communication strategies that align with BSF’s mission and values

Identify opportunities to increase visibility of BSF programs, services, and community initiatives

Plan and produce content across multiple channels: website, social media, newsletters, intranet, impact reports, and more

Manage the intranet (content creation, design updates, and user engagement)

Draft clear, engaging, and on-brand communication materials: speaking notes, memos, newsletters, presentations, etc.

Support events planning and promotion in partnership with key departments

Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent messaging and storytelling

Provide general communications and marketing support across all BSF locations

Work on-site at various BSF facilities in Calgary and Okotoks as required

Who We're Looking For:

Degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field

2–5 years of experience in a communications or related role

Experience in internal communications or community relations is a strong asset

Background in non-profit, healthcare, or social services is preferred

Excellent writing, proofreading, and storytelling skills

Creative mindset with a strong eye for visual and digital content (graphic design is a plus)

Proficiency in digital platforms including social media, e-newsletters, CMS, and intranet tools

Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and content/project management tools is an asset

Organized, self-driven, and able to juggle multiple priorities with tight deadlines

A relationship-builder who enjoys working with diverse stakeholders

Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for events
