The Brenda Strafford Foundation is a registered Canadian charity established in 1975 by Dr. Barrie I. Strafford in memory of his late wife, Brenda. The organization was founded out of compassion, under the guiding principle to cater to humanity, creating a legacy in Brenda’s name that would perpetuate her desire to give back to the community in a meaningful way. The Role:
Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Perform basic repairs and general maintenance tasks on general apartment-style units, machinery, equipment, and building structures in a timely and efficient manner.
- Complete client requests and work orders, general contractor work such as painting and minor repairs on a daily basis
- Conduct routine inspections of facility, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper operation and identify maintenance needs.
- Carry out preventive maintenance activities to maintain building systems and minimize potential issues or downtime.
- Complete regular safety and compliance checks, including identifying hazards, testing fire alarms, and ensuring adherence to applicable safety regulations and codes.
- Work with manager to coordinate external contractors performing specialized repairs or maintenance, ensuring work is completed to quality and safety standards.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and make suggestions for purchases as required
- Assist with unit staging, including moving, assembling, and arranging furniture, as well as completing minor repairs and painting to prepare spaces for occupancy.

- Consistent, strong communication skills both in person and via email, messaging, and virtual modes
- Ability to balance competing priorities, and demonstrate sound decision making in critical areas
- Supportive team player who is always willing to support various departments as needed
- Participation in OH&S Committee

Who We're Looking For:
- Proven general maintenance experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
- Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts
- Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary
- Experience performing routine maintenance; experience with apartment buildings is an asset
- Strong organizational and follow through skills
- Ability to maintain focus while working individually
- Lifting up to 50lbs to 80lbs
- Strong time management skills
- Valid driver’s license of six (6) years with clean drivers abstract of three (3) years
- Maintain adequate standards of Occupational Health and Safety within departments and day-to-day tasks
- Required to provide a suitable police security clearance and child intervention check
- Valid First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain)
- Follow a Trauma informed practice
